I would like to congratulate all of our students for entering doodles in the Doodle for Google contest this year. You got to learn about some careers at Google, the design process, and how art and technology are sometimes interdependent. I am very proud of everyone’s piece they created. Stay creative and keep those awesome imaginations growing!! You won’t see any doodles from KS, but to see the doodles that made it to the next round in the voting process click here and join the voting process.
We’ve been coding away doing unplugged activities, coding on the web, coding on apps, and now we are coding with robots! K-4 has been using Dash and Dot and 5th graders have been using Sphero. We also just got some Ozobots in! For those families interested in learning more about these robots or just want to check them out you can click on the links above.

I am entering each student’s entry online this week. Each student can only enter once. If your child did not turn theirs into me and would still like a chance to enter, I need it prior to December 7th.

The Doodle 4 Google Contest is out finally! Everyone will be submitting a doodle to enter into the contest as an assignment for technology class (required homework). All doodles are due to me by October 13th (Tuesday after Fall break). Check out the contest details on the link below. This years theme is “what makes me…me!” and you could win up to a $30,000 scholarship! Be creative. Be innovative. Think outside the box. I can’t wait to see what you all enter!
We have a Twitter account and an Instagram account! The kids are already taking ownership of their learning in technology and sharing globally in an online environment. Both of our account names are @thegalanggang. In the sidebar of this blog, you can visit both of our social media accounts.
Students know the basics about Twitter:
-Tweets are your posts, what you have to say to people
-Handle is your username
-Hashtags help us group posts about the same topic
-Followers are people who are interested in what you have to say
Students write out tweets on our analog Twitter board in the classroom and email me anything they want to share on Instagram. This extra step is a way to filter and authentically teach digital citizenship. Each class has their own hashtag. Some other hashtags we like to use are #ksmakers, #ksedtech, #kshawaii, and #imuakamehameha.
KS Makers will be offered to students in 4th and 5th grade. We will meet on Fridays from 3:00-4:00pm. This year we will meet in the Lumi Kaunānā (Tech Room). The club will max out at 20 students and is first come first serve. What is Maker Club? Visit our club webpage to learn all about it. This is also where you will need to go to sign up. The sign up form must be filled out by a parent. Students will be added to a waiting list should we exceed 20 participants.
Fifth graders have been using the Design Thinking process to showcase a topic of their choice using Daqri augmented reality. Download the Daqri app and then scan any of the pictures below to view the experiences.
All grade levels will be working on video making for their last unit in Technology this year. Students have all learned various video making skills such as storyboarding, taking landscape videos, various video making tools, lighting, sound, and so much more depending on the grade level.
